Two new federally funded IAFF HazMat training opportunities are now available for delivery to your fire department.
- Emergency Response to HazMat Materials (ERHM) - designed to teach your community how to plan for and respond to hazardous materials incidents, as well as train members of the community to assist during recovery. The whole-community approach integrates all members as vital partners in response to natural and man-made disasters. The course meets the NFPA Standard 1072 at the awareness level. The Emergency Response to HazMat Materials training program uses a blended approach and includes a self-paced online prerequisite in the IAFF Online Learning Center, in addition to the instructor-led training portion. Participants include law enforcement, career and volunteer fire fighters) specialized emergency response teams, emergency managers, community leaders and skilled support personnel (e.g., public works, private industry and hospitals). - Planning and Response to High Consequence Incidents (HiC) - designed with the whole community in mind, this course is a one-day, instructor-led training program that reviews information on the hazards associated with the transport of crude oil by rail and the storage and use of ammonium nitrate. Attending this training satisfies most of the annual hazardous materials refresher requirements for operations level responders, as stated in the HAZWOPER regulation. The Planning and Response to High Consequence Incidents training program uses a blended approach and includes a self-paced online prerequisite in the IAFF Online Learning Center, in addition to the instructor-led training portion. Participants include emergency responders (law enforcement, career and volunteer fire fighters), emergency managers, facility and rail personnel, community members, local and state planners and faith-based organizations.
