How do I register for a course?
To register for a course, use the My Courses link to access the course catalog. From there, you can choose one of the many available courses. Once you complete the registration process, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment. You can use either the link in the email or just return to lms.iaff.org.
IAFF Online Learning Center Tour
The course will be listed under Incomplete Courses on your Online Training Center homepage.
How do I find my course?
Once you have registered for a course, you can find it on your My Courses page at https://lms.iaff.org. You can search for it by name if you don't see it.Why doesn't my module mark as complete?
You may have noticed that your modules are not always marked as complete, even though you have gone through them from beginning to end. Below are three tips that may help circumvent this issue.
Tip 1: Complete the modules using Firefox or Safari, which did not make the changes Chrome did.
Tip 2: Use the exit button provided in the course module to close it out when you are done. Do not use the ‘exit activity’ link that is available in the upper right corner of the module page in the LMS or close the browser. These actions may not trigger the completion and therefore the course may get marked incomplete and you may need to have the module completely reset. This will require you to complete it again. This tip is especially important if you use Chrome to go through the course.
Tip 3: When you complete the module, wait for at least 30 seconds before proceeding to the next module. As you exit the module the system is writing back to the LMS and although it should be instantaneous, not all things seem to move as quickly. This has not been proven scientifically but we have anecdotal data showing this has helped.
Some of the older courses indicate you can use either the ‘exit activity’ link or close browser to end the module. These courses were developed and programmed prior to the changes in Chrome. As we identify those courses, we will update them.
I need to retake a course, what do I do?
The IAFF has received several inquiries regarding retaking courses on the IAFF Online Learning System. Unfortunately, at this time, you can only take the course officially once. We do not have a way to reset the course for a single person.
We are actively investigating ways to allow user to take the course more than once and receive updated certificates. In the meantime, we have developed a process to assist you with receiving an updated certificate. To receive the updated certificates, please complete the following steps:
- Restart each module from the beginning and complete all the module activities. This activity is logged into the system.
- Retake the course quizzes and/or tests. Again, the scores from these activities are logged into the system along with the date and time you completed them.
- Email LMSQuestion@iaff.org to request an updated certificate. Use Updated Certificate Request in the subject line and include the following information:.
- Name
- Membership ID
- Course name
Once we have verified you have taken the course and passed the test, we will then send you an updated certificate with the date you successfully completed the test.
Please DO NOT create a new account. This will cause issues within the Online Learning Center as well as our membership database.
We will post a message once we have identified the final solution for this matter.
I have a duplicate record; what can I do?
Email LMSQuestion@iaff.org to have the accounts merged, providing your full name, address, and the email address that should be retained as the username. Please allow at least two business days for processing.
Why do I have to provide additional registration information for some courses?
Some of the IAFF courses are developed and delivered using grants from the Federal government. These additional questions are required by the granting agency. The IAFF does not use this information in any other capacity.
Do I have to complete the course all at one time?
No, you can begin the course and stop at any time. When you return to the course, you can pick up right where you left off.
Is there a registration fee for these courses?
Unless otherwise noted on the course registration page, these courses are free to all IAFF members. During registration checkout, you will see a $0.00 charge for the course.
How do I disable my pop-up blocker?
Disabling the pop-up blocker on the browser depends on which browser is being used. Directions may be accessed for the most popular browsers below.Where did my course go? Opening files in a course.
Throughout some of the courses, you will be provided with opportunities to access additional information either as a file or website. When you choose to access this information, the file or website may open in a new window or tab that will hide your course. Please note, that your course is not closed but just hidden under the new tab or window. To return to your course without closing it, you can follow one of the two options listed below for a laptop or computer.- Place the cursor/pointer over the appropriate browser icon in the menu bar a the bottom of the screen.
- Choose the course window. The course is not in the same window as the file/website, it is in a completely separate window.
- Select Alt plus tab to switch open windows.
Course Certificate Access
[edit]
How can I access my certificates for all of the courses I have completed?
After completing a course, you may want to download the certificate.
There are two ways to download online course certificates. The first way is is directly from the online course. Each course provides a certificate that can be downloaded once the evaluation survey is complete.
The second option to download a certificate is to go through your IAFF website members account. Certificates from courses completed on the LMS and in person are available. AS with the online courses you will need to have completed the post-course evaluation.
To access your IAFF member account, start by logging into your account at www.iaff.org by selecting Members in the top menu. Once you have logged in you will find the certificates under "My Account."
Then select the tab, "My Certificates,” on the side navigation menu . It it is the bottom option.

Now you should be able to see all of the certificates for the courses you have completed on the LMS and in-person.
HazMat Training [edit]

Yes, you are able to download or print a certificate of completion once you have completed the following:
- All the course modules,
- Passed the post-test with at least a 70%
- Post-course evaluation.
If you are attending the corresponding instructor-led class, you do not need to bring a hard copy of the certificate with you.
